Cricket

Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport in which two sides alternate between batting and fielding. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball and running between the wickets, while the fielding side attempts to limit scoring and dismiss the batters.

Matches are divided into innings, with the result determined by the runs scored and the dismissals achieved under the playing conditions of the match. Cricket combines batting technique, bowling accuracy, fielding, strategy, and the management of time across an innings or a multi-day contest.

At Paris 1900, cricket was represented by a single two-day match between the Devon and Somerset Wanderers and the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques. Played on 19–20 August at the Vélodrome Municipal de Vincennes, the Wanderers won by 158 runs. It remains the only Olympic cricket competition in this dataset.
