Shot Put

The shot put is a field event that combines strength and technique as athletes try to propel a heavy shot the greatest possible distance. At Athens 1896, it was held under early Olympic conditions, with the winner determined by the longest valid throw. Even in its early form, the event reflected the same essential challenge that defines the shot put today: combining power, balance, and control for maximum distance.
